Ce vei face
We only run this trip 2 weeks out of the month, when the moon’s size and rise time won’t interfere with the visibility of the bioluminescence. We have small groups (max6), will give you instruction on paddle boarding, no experience necessary. Some people even prefer sitting or kneeling on the boards. Then we will head out to paddle in the bioluminescent bay where your motions set off sparkles in the water. You can swim in it and look through our snorkel masks.

Unde vei fi
We paddle by mangrove islands to reach bioluminescent bay lit up by dinoflagellates. We start close to La Parguera, a small fishing village on the south side of the island.

Gilbert was an amazing guide. When we first got out into the water it was super cloudy. I thought I was just seeing wave peaks or something kind of strange but it was the bio luminescent being shy at first cause of the clouds. Eventually it was super active and absolutely gorgeous . I couldn’t stop saying how cool it was. Eventually we all got a little tired of paddling so we parked by some mangroves and got to dive in looking at the bio luminescent under the water... this was incredible. Highly recommend this experience. For the location and price, along with amazing guides...don’t even question it, just book it. You won’t be disappointed

This trip is not for the faint of heart. I gave it an ok rating solely because the bay and the stars are beautiful and the bioluminescence was amazing. I would only recommend this trip for an experienced paddler and traveler who does not expect or need a guide to make them feel safe or you know, guide them. This location is beautiful but it is remote and it is not for everyone and is not family friendly. The meeting spot is on the opposite side of the bay in an isolated area that i can only assumed is frequented as a boat access by partying locals based on our experience and another review here. So I’ll note that a female solo traveler might not feel comfortable for that reason. I do not recommend driving from parguera to the location along the water because it is through small towns with narrow roads that I would not feel comfortable driving through at night. Take the highway over and down which is just a few extra minutes if you go, try to drive before it gets dark if you aren’t familiar with the area. We drove over an hour early so we could drive in daylight and I’d recommend that not matter which way your go. While the owners are identity verified with good reviews, I was surprised a day before to learn that a guide who was not either of them was taking me and the owners weren’t even on the island. The guide I went with was Gilbert. I’m an experienced traveler and kayaker and in my opinion Gilbert does not have any business supervising groups of people for water safety. Gilbert did not stay near any of the guests and led us out into the window blowing us far from shore into deeper water with waves strong enough to knock inexperienced paddlers off balance in deep water. He barely blinked an eye when people fell behind or completely disappeared. You will be the only outfit on this water which was a surprise to me and seems worthy mentioning in the Airbnb listing especially since you cant tell how far out the way it is on the map. It should be marketed as a remote adventure bio bay trip. When the wind blew us out to the edge of the bay and waves and wind kept pushing us out, I told him I was scared and didn’t want to go further he did not respond and paddled further out from shore. Maybe he didn’t hear me, I kept following him deeper and called out again to no response. Maybe he didn’t hear me but he also wasn’t looking back or checking in and he was fading in the distance. I felt so uncomfortable that I paddled back to an island alone and he did not physically come back to check on me until the tour rounded the far side of the bay. I was gone for 15-20 minutes before my partner paddled over to update Gilbert. The life jackets were optional and barely mentioned despite the fact you will go into 20ft water in the pitch dark in the wind and the guide will never once ask you if you can swim or come back to check on you. The jackets are the crappy boater ones, also my partners ankle bracelet Velcro didn’t work which is extremely dangerous on a SUP in the wind at night. He didn’t tell us how to communicate in an emergency and didn’t even carry a whistle instead he yelled into the wind once or twice but literally no one could hear each other and people floated apart across the bay with no instruction struggling against the wind. Expect a boat a or two whizzing through the bay and be prepared to shine a flashlight at them so they avoid hitting you. This trip violated basic water safety in so many ways. To top off the night the guide proceeded to nonchalantly tell us about how an entire family he was guiding got blown out to sea earlier that morning and it took an hour to flag down a jet ski to go get them. THIS LOCATION IS BEAUTIFUL and Gilbert is a nice enough guy as long as your life doesn’t depend on him. Do go if you are an avid adventurer comfortable with your own judgement or a local who is familiar with the area or island waters because this remote viewing area is gorgeous and maybe you will have a better experience.

This activity was ok - due to light pollution and other types of pollution - the water is not nearly as bright as we have seen In other locations. The guide was nice but to be honest you are going for the natural wonder and it is not nearly as nice as other locations in Puerto Rico.

The paddle boarding itself was fun, the bioluminescent plankton were beautiful. But don’t go with Gilbert if you are a female. I’m pretty sure he is a sex trafficker. He tried to get me and my sisters to go onto a yacht with three random men after the paddle tour. The men and Gilbert kept asking where me and my sisters were staying, and asking for the exact address. It was extremely scary... We paddled back to shore without Gilbert’s help, and left. Also- my sister was stung by a jellyfish while swimming and Gilbert did not help at all.
