Wonderfully located, spacious & immaculate, the apartment is the second floor of an 1890's two-family home with high ceilings and big windows. There are two bedrooms, a separate study with a desk and bed, two bathrooms, and a third bedroom available (at an additional charge.)
The amazing neighborhood offers great restaurants, markets and shops --there's something interesting for everyone to do. You don't need a car since the subway entrance is nearby, but one driveway parking space is included.

I am an Interior Designer; I emphasize comfort, convenience, beauty, and good art. We've attended to the details that will make your stay supremely pleasurable. The sheets are ironed, there are toys and supplies for children, the toiletries are lovely, the towels are large and plush, and the Welcome Basket is stocked with deliciousness. This is a great place for a family or a small group of friends!

The Location
You can be on the Boston Common and Freedom Trail in Downtown Boston, or at Shannon Beach on Mystic Lake, in under 15 minutes. We love this area for it's neighborliness and convenience -- it just doesn't get any better!
We're right between Davis Square and Massachusetts Avenue, so you can be in either place in just a 3 minute walk. Local restaurants, ice cream shops, stores and the 4 local groceries have done a great job of implementing new safe dining and shopping arrangements. Over 30 restaurants within a 10 minute walk offer take-out, and many have comfortable outdoor seating. There’s easy access to Route 2 or 93 and the Bike Path. Davis Square, our own neighborhood just a three minute walk away, is safe and lively.

The Apartment
We've adjusted the layout for safe access, so you'll enter from the back yard through your own completely private door, to your own private foyer and set of stairs.
You'll find a large open-and-lovely kitchen, dining, and living room. The private master suite, with specially-faux-painted walls, includes an original 1930's bathroom with an extra-long soaking tub, a high-end Sealy king-size bed with a padded head-board, a dressing table, a stool, and also a desk with a nice ergonomic chair. The suite's walk-in closet has a window, is big enough to use as a nursery, and we're happy to provide a porta-crib. The beautiful and sunny main study is equipped with a desk and comfortable chair, as well as a daybed for reading or sleeping. The light-filled front bedroom is furnished with twin beds which can be clamped together to form a king. (The photos show it both ways.) There's also a second bathroom just across the hall (shower/sink/toilet) and a full laundry. It's possible to shut the door between the living areas, and make the front bedroom act as an entirely private suite.

The listing is priced for four people.
Cleaning during your stay MAY be possible for a fee, however this is something we'll need to discuss, and the possibilities may change over time.

We are happy to take turns using the patio.

The apartment is served by central air conditioning with the exception of the main study, which has a portable air conditioner, and the master closet, which is cooled by the adjoining bedroom. All rooms are heated by either radiators or electric baseboard.

The Art
The walls are a celebration of fine art, and if you love something you may be able to buy it, and take it home with you. There's a selection of mixed media works, photographs, etchings, lithographs, and fine watercolors. We rotate work from our collection, and it's all worth your attention.

We love to welcome children here, however we are not "child-proof", so you'll need to supervise them for their safety. We can provide amenities such as a porta-crib, high chair, dishes, stroller, toys and books. We aren't set up for the happy running, jumping and dancing of rambunctious play, but you are welcome to bring your children outdoors to play, and local fields and playgrounds are open. On hot days, it’s good to remember that Shannon Beach is a short hop away. Somerville's nice Dilboy Pool is also open in the summer. It is 8 minutes away, with good safe-distancing protocols in place.
Please note that we create a special set-up for babies and children, and we do charge for infants and children, no matter what age.

The well-equipped kitchen is suitable for light cooking. It is served by two under-counter refrigerators/freezers, so there's plenty of space for regular grocery shopping, but it is not suitable for bulk shopping. There's a great grocery store right on the corner, a weekly Farmer’s Market a half block from the house, and two additional markets within three blocks. No one will go hungry!
Kittens live in the other part of the house, but they are never allowed in the apartment.
Driveway parking for one car is included. Additional parking can often be purchased. Please tell us what you need at least three weeks in advance.

As noted above, the apartment is mostly on the second floor. There are three steps up to the back door. There are fourteen steps from the foyer to the apartment. They are built on an 8-1/2” tread with an 8” rise. They are fully carpeted, and there’s a railing. You can see them in the photos of the listing.

Please note that, due to linen/laundry/pressing/set-up costs, there is a three-night minimum on extra guest fees. On long-term rentals there may be a separate cleaning fee.

We have wonderful neighbors, some are young children, so we are very careful about street behavior, noise, size of group and smoking. We comply with a standard Vacation Rental Agreement. By reserving with us you are confirming that you accept this agreement. Please read it under HOUSE RULES.
No pets are permitted.
We can not rent to smokers.

Unde vei fi

Somerville, Massachusetts, Statele Unite ale Americii

Please remember that the AirBnB "pins" do not show you exact listing locations. We are a three minute walk to Davis Square and the subway in one direction, and also a three minute walk to the grocery store and bus on Mass Ave in the other direction.
Our location offers very easy access to Harvard, Tufts, Cambridge, Arlington and Boston. There are children's playgrounds within a short walk, and a public beach within a short drive. Davis Square, right at the next corner, is a destination in itself.
Here's a portion of an article from the Boston Globe about Davis Square:

Somerville crossroads lives up to its hip image

“We’ve come from a foreign land called suburbia,” a mother joked to her two highly energized toddlers as they darted about on the busy sidewalks of Davis Square. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, urban bohemians and families alike swarmed into this hipster beehive to purge their cabin fever.

Sandwiched between Tufts University and North Cambridge, it’s a trendsetter rather than a follower — just as Harvard Square used to be, according to the baby boomers who have defected to Davis. What makes the square so appealing is that it seems to have evolved naturally, retaining modest little shops that make life easier, while adding others that give life pizzazz. In Davis Square you can buy a pound of hamburger or wormwood bitters for your cocktail party, get your shoes repaired, get a tattoo, or buy the latest graphic novel.

And you can stock up on vintage clothes. At Buffalo Exchange, one of several vintage and resale stores in the square, shoppers were intently examining every item on the racks. “People get very excited when they start shopping,” said Lisa DeFreitas, the store manager. “Sometimes they come in twice a day.”

The area restaurants range from Italian to Korean, Indian to Tibetan, Mexican to Japanese. There are good old American burgers, too, not to mention barbecue. The square’s quintessential barbecue joint, Redbones, spoke hipster from the early days, offering bicycle valet parking since 1996.

Redbones remains a touchstone for barbecue fans from all around Boston. Increasingly, other Davis Square eateries and watering holes have become destinations as well. The 1970s birthplace of premium ice cream, Steve’s (razed to make room for a bakery), is now home to Pizzeria Posto, where wood-fired pizza with the imprimatur of Verace Pizza Napoletana meets more than two dozen wines by the glass.

Foundry on Elm tapped celebrity restaurant designer Peter Niemitz (Clio, Aquitaine, etc.) to create its snazzy space with a 43-foot Italian marble bar. A locally inspired brasserie menu and 32 beers on tap add panache to the mix. (Roast chicken and steak frites always go well with beer.) Its downstairs sibling, Saloon, is a little harder to find. To locate the stairwell from the street, look for the faux gaslight by the door. Inspired by pre-Prohibition drinking establishments, Saloon was recently named by Thrillist as one of America’s best whiskey bars, thanks to its speakeasy vibe and 150-plus whiskeys, many of them rarities.

At the same address as Saloon and Foundry on Elm, Davis Square Theatre fills the former space of Cantabrigian Jimmy Tingle’s Off Broadway Theater. That’s literally a tough act to follow, but the theater has risen to the challenge with a performance calendar that ranges from new plays and improv comedy to Tribal Fusion belly dance, EP releases, and alt rock. The monthly revue “Old School Game Show” has become such a hit that the theater sells out, said manager Gabriel Kuttner. The interactive send-up of the bizarre pageantry of 1970s game shows may be leaving the Sunday ghetto. “We’re thinking of moving it to a Friday or Saturday night,” Kuttner said.

Of course, that can’t hold a candle to the Somerville Theatre which opened in 1914 to present stage shows, vaudeville, opera, and the then-newfangled motion pictures. The original main theater still features 900 seats, though there are also four other movie theaters for cozier viewing and narrower interests (such as the Subterranean Cinema series). But movies are just part of the fun. The theater remains an active performance venue for live theater and concerts, including many produced by World Music. Upcoming performances range from Afro-pop to Celtic music to old-time fiddle and banjo.

It wouldn’t be Davis Square without refreshments. Somerville Theatre serves ice cream, wine and beer to movie and event patrons. It also slathers the popcorn with real butter.

We love to travel as well, and also have a home on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Where-ever we go, I like to cook and dance.
