At the fringes of the charming traditional Balinese village of Sudaji lies the Sekempul Falls Teak House. A 20m2 teak house (gladak) with attached bathroom, 2m wide wrap-around balcony, charming gardens, and breathtaking views of sunset over mountains and a valley of ricefields dotted with palm trees. A slice of heaven in northern Bali, the Teak House offers a gateway to the Sekempul Waterfalls for a couple, family or small group of friends searching for tranquility and natural beauty.

Spațiul
A quiet retreat in the breathtaking ricefields of a traditional Balinese village, a stay in the Sekempul Falls Teak House is a truly unique experience. The house is the largest of four freestanding bungalows that make up Sunsetsala, a spacious homestay lying in the ricefields at the fringe of a sleepy village nestled between the mountains and Bali’s northern coast. Guests to this magical space will be treated to breathtaking sunsets in a relaxed tranquil environment surrounded by farmland and forest. The house is ideal for guests searching for glimpse of village life in rural Bali or find a tranquil base, surrounded by nature, from which to explore northern Bali and the magnificent Sekempul waterfalls.

The Sekempul Falls Teak House is a nearly 50 year-old teak house (gladak) imported from Java to the ricefields of north Bali. The lockable room is 4x5m with a queen-sized bed (with mosquito net and fresh linen), fan, closet and direct access to the stylishly tiled outdoor bathroom (covered and completely private with hot water and all modern amenities). The 2m wide balcony wraps around the other three sides and is completely covered over with adjustable blinds to offer greater privacy and protection from sun and rain. On the southern side of the balcony you have a comfortable day bed (with fresh linen and mosquito net) for one additional guest. On the northern side you have bunk beds (with fresh linen and mosquito nets) for two guests. And, across the front of the house you will find benches and couches with a coffee table from which to privately enjoy uninterrupted views of the mountains to the south, sea to the north and, in front of you to the west, a stunning valley of palm dotted ricefields over which the sunset sets offering breathtaking views. The house includes wifi access and a fresh water dispenser.

Upon reconstructing this beautiful and unique structure we built a short path through gardens dotted with hibiscus, and frangipani trees that takes you from Sunsetsala’s shared kitchen-dining space to your private house. On the northern side of the house you will fine more gardens with a comfortable outside day bed and the charming labyrinth shrine where local priest Pak Mangku and his wife—your host, Ibu Mangku—offer a sunset cleansing ceremony.

Accesul oaspeților
As guests of Sunsetsala, the occupants of the Sekempul Falls Teak House will have access to the kitchen facilities and surrounding fields through which to wander. The shared kitchen-dinging area is equipped with fridge, cooking space, dining area and sitting room (including hammock). You can help yourself to coffee, tea and drinking water. Breakfast will be prepared freshly and served in the open dining area each morning (typically coffee/tea and fresh fruit along with pancakes or omelettes prepared using local produce). Those wishing to cook might visit the charming local 'pasar' (market) (open between 4am and 7.30am) to buy fresh produce and prepare lunch or dinner in the facilities. Otherwise you might wish to wander up to the village where local warungs or seek out a little more luxury from the restaurants of Singaraja, Air Saneh or Lovina. Alternatively, you can let us know the day before and we will prepare traditional cuisine for you right here in the kitchen (70,000 IDR per person; half price for children under 14). Meals are prepared with fresh local produce by Ibu Mangku and Balinese cookery teacher Ibu Kadek Ayu. Vegetarian options available.

Alte lucruri de reținut
Sudaji village is 3 hours from Ngurah Rai Airport and Kuta area by car. It is a lovely drive over the mountain from Buleleng and the voyage will typical cost 700,000 IDR. We strongly recommend arriving in daylight.

Regrettably, Sunsetsala and the Sekempul Falls Teak House are not currently wheelchair accessible and guests whose mobility is limited should be wary that the bungalow is located down a path through ricefields, some 200m from where your car stops (those with motorbikes will be able to proceed further). We can arrange motorbike rental from the village.

You will be very well looked after by Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku. They are available to assist you, keep the premises tidy and provide information about local local surrounings. Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku will prepare meals at your request (see above). Balinese cookery classes are available with Ibu Ayu (additional cost). Ibu Mangku's husband Pak Mangku, a local priest (Mangku), is available upon request to perform a cleansing ceremony (additional cost).
You will find opportunities to interact with locals in the village and farmers who wander about the surrounding ricefields, going about their daily activities according to traditional methods of cultivation. You may also wish to arrange for a massage from our wonderful local masseuse who can provide a traditional Balinese massage in your room or on Sunsetsala's open air living area for 150, 000 IDR.
Finally, you will share the common space with Maxi (a big old dog) and the neighbouring chickens and ducks who wander freely about the property. The crickets, birds and geckos provide a soundtrack to the breathtaking sunset we are treated to each evening here at Sunsetsala.
