The Story House

Between the lights of Portland and the slopes of Mt. Hood stands a whimsical woods of giant firs, feathery cedars and old mossy maples. Midst a maze of paths and ferns is a cozy cabin full of delightful art. Browse the uncommon birdhouses and their stories. Just steps outside the French doors is a lighted path to the bathhouse (the only bathroom) with toilet, shower, clawfoot tub and washer/dryer. Walk the paths, soak in the hot tub and end your day in the peace and quiet of a private cabin.

Barlow Haus

Welcome to Barlow Haus, a secluded cabin nestled on 2 acres of forest in Brightwood, OR, at the base of Mt. Hood. Immerse yourself in the beauty of this private woodland retreat, where nature meets thoughtful design. The property boasts an inviting backyard complete with a hot tub, sauna, fire pit, BBQ, and ample seating for gatherings. The cabin has been meticulously restored and enhanced with new finishes and modern amenities, offering a seamless blend of cottage charm & contemporary comfort.

*water pressure issue has been fixed! Niksen House is located just outside of Mt. Hood National Forest, 20 minutes from ski areas and an hour from Portland. The cabin is in a rural residential community and sits next to a 1/2 acre lot giving it an off-the-grid feel with all of the on-the-grid amenities. It's the perfect place to get out of the city and disconnect in nature, or to use as your base for all the PNW adventures. It's a quick 30 min drive to Mount hood or the entrance to the Colombia Gorge, and only 45 min from PDX Airport.
