The tavern’s white tablecloths and long, sexy bar attracts more of a 30-and-older crowd and is not strictly for vegetarians. You’ll see after-work dinners and old friends catching up. Try the vegetarian dishes off the tasting menu paired with wine for nice combos like carrot and citrus salad with a riesling, or the mushroom chawanmushi with a marsanne. My vegetarian entree of choice—Brussels sprouts fried rice, poached farm egg, and sunchokes. And yes, that’s all one dish!

I still haven’t made it here which is inexcusable, because this place is legendary locally, for an upmarket drink and bite at the bar. Get there early to snag a spot. Modern American fare and a gorgeous, buzzy bar. 42 East 20th St

A classic Danny Meyer NYC dining experience. Dress up, treat yourself to the tasting menu and then stroll home passing Gramercy Park on the way. What a night!
