And you thought the age of dinosaurs had come to an end? 65 million years ago? A meteor, or so you heard? Well, think again! Think 'Wales'! Think 'Pembrokeshire'! Think 'great places to visit'! Then step back through the mists of time to the land that time forgot at The Dinosaur Park in Tenby, and whether you’re a toddler or teenager, granny or granddad, or anything in between, there are hours of great value family fun (and fear) waiting for you, lurking around every corner...

Sightseeing

Caldey Island is owned and run by the Reformed Order of Cistercian monks, who live a simple life farming the island alongside a small village community. They produce a number of famous homegrown items including chocolate, ice cream, clotted cream, shortbread and yoghurt, plus perfumes and hand lotions derived from wild flowers that grow on the island. Boats run to and from the island every 15 minutes from 9.30 am until 5.00 pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from mid May until mid September. Tickets are available from the Caldey Island kiosk at Tenby harbour entrance ( 01834 844453 ). The twenty-minute trip leaves visitors at the landing spot on the beautiful Priory beach, the only safe bathing spot on the island. From here it is a short stroll to the village and Monastery.

Perched upon the cliffs, in the heart of the village, you can’t really miss the Norman’s Castle. The Castle occupies a commanding position overlooking the beautiful Manorbier Beach with the village nestled behind. Steeped in history and folklore this Norman gem has many secrets to discover. The fairytale turrets, great hall, chapel and landscaped gardens (designed by Daphne Shackleton one of Ireland’s foremost plants women) offer the perfect place to soak up the wonderful atmosphere. Tour the castle and gardens before having a well-earned break at the café. If you really get caught up in the romance, the castle is also available for weddings.

Idyllically set on the banks of the river estuary, this mighty fortress is largely intact, and its endless passages, tunnels and stairways are great fun to explore, plus there are super exhibitions, which tell the tale of its medieval life. Once the seat of a succession of major barons who played leading roles in shaping Britain's history, this historic showpiece is the birthplace of Henry Tudor, father to the infamous Henry VIII and grandfather of Elizabeth I. Spend a day, and picnic in the beautifully kept grounds or from St. Anne's Bastion, enjoy views along the estuary while partaking of refreshments from the snack bar. Visit the Brass Rubbing Centre and quickly and easily, make an attractive souvenir. Complete your visit with a walk around the medieval town walls and millpond, and from the opposite bank of the river, view the castle in all its splendour, surrounded by this peaceful stretch of water.

Beautiful Barafundle Bay was once one of Pembrokeshire’s best kept secrets. The locals knew this crescent-shaped golden beach of deep, soft sand, and told no-one. It was their jealously guarded piece of recreational paradise, facing east like the eye of Stackpole Warren whose long nose is Stackpole Head and its prominent chin Saddle Point.

Britain’s smallest city both in terms of size and population, St Davids is nevertheless an important religious centre, and has been for almost a millennium. Birthplace of St David, Patron Saint of Wales, it was historically a place of pilgrimage from the time of the Crusades and it was said that two pilgrimages there were worth one to Rome.

Large food orientated pub at the top of the steps leading from Tudor Square down to the harbour. The deep split-level interior has stone walls and beams with plenty of fishing equipment dotted around the walls and ceiling, including a coracle.. The front bar resembles a boat, which is exactly what it was, an old clinker boat previously used as a lifeboat. It was installed in 1996. Hancock’s HB is sold as Cwrw Tenby alongside the Doom Bar.
