McCrary Lake is accessible fishing just 5 miles from Whispering Pines. It has both walk in access and a boat landing. Neighbors report Crappie, Blue Gills, Northern, Bass, and Perch in the lake.
There's a place to fish below the dam as well. I drove in and walked a slight incline to get to the top of the dam.
