What to bring

Vals is at around 1200 m above sea level. In the summer and spring we recommend bringing a hat, sun protection, comfortable walking shoes and clothes that can be layered. The valley is steep, so some may prefer to use hiking poles. Evenings are cool in the summer. For the winter season, pack warm clothes and sun screen. Skis and sledges can be rented from the lift station. The thermal baths are open all year round, so if you plan on visiting them, don't forget your swim wear. There are no proper clothing stores, so you may be stuck buying whatever is available, which may not be much.
Deplasarea și accesul

Walk, hike, bike, ski or sledge.

Vals is pretty small. Getting to Vals is easy with public transport. Check Google maps for directions using public transportation. If coming by car, mind the 30km speed limit in the village. Speeding fines are very high. You can get around walking in the village. In the winter season there is a free ski shuttle, which stops directly in front of Haus Zerfreila, where the Z Studio is. In the summer there is a bus to Zerfreila Restaurant, from where you can go to the dam wall. There are a few trails that start from Zerfreila Restaurant.

Say hi on the mountain trails

It is very common in Switzerland to greet people when walking by, especially in the mountains. In general, be mindful of others and the rules:).

Pack sandwiches for your hike

We sometimes like buying delicious bread from the local bakery Peng and cheese from the Käserei and having a simple lunch when hiking. This definitely helps when on a budget as an inexpensive restaurant meal and a drink can easily cost 30Fr per person.
