Munkholmen er ei øy i Trondheimsfjorden, ca. 2 kilometer rett ut for Trondheim. Øya har en rik historie, og har vært i bruk som rettersted, kloster, festning, fengsel og forsvarsanlegg. I dag er Munkholmen i sommerhalvåret et populært utfartssted for byens befolkning og tilreisende.

Like utenfor senteret ligger en rekke restauranter, båtplasser, konsertscener og hoteller, som bidrar til å gjøre Solsiden til en populær destinasjon ved Nidelvens utløp.

The original theater building dates from 1816. Since 1997, the old stage has been incorporated into the new theater house inaugurated by Queen Sonja. The theater today consists of five fixed stages. https://www.trondelag-teater.no/
