Food scene

This is one of the first places I was taken when I came to Barcelona, and still love a trip there today. A small, whole in the wall that will have you brushing up with locals and tourists alike. Grab a bottle of cava and one of the various sandwiches they offer. Great if you're traveling on a budget, but a place you'll want to visit on any type of trip.

Awesome tapas and their very own cava. This place is small, so you definitely want to get there early. It's right down the street from the Picasso Museum, so there is a lot of foot traffic, but still a local top stop. Try the tortilla de chorizo.

There are actually two of these places, right next to one another; a smaller bar and a larger restaurant. An awesome tapas bar in the Barceloneta you need to try for all sorts of tapas. Try out the Buñuelos de Bacalao (cod fritters).

Sightseeing

The number one thing to visit in Barcelona. Started in 1882, La Sagrada Familia still is not finished, but when it is, it will be the tallest church in the world. The best time to visit is in the afternoon when the sun is starting to set along the Passion Façade to see the interior bathed in the colors of the stained-glass windows.

To understand the Gothic Quarter you have to understand the Cathedral. Started in 1298, the Cathedral was 100% finished until 1913. Entrance is 9€, but you have access to the roof to get views of the surrounding Gothic Quarter.
