The Kyu-Yasuda Teien Gardens in Tokyo's Ryogoku district in Sumida ward are just north of the sumo stadium, the Kokugikan. It's walking distance from the apartment. Kyu-Yasuda Teien Gardens began life as the grounds of a samurai residence in 1691. The residence was famed for its pond that was fed by the Sumida River, running alongside the plot.

Ryogoku is known as the heartland of sumo, and rikishi wrestlers are a common sight in the neighborhood and around the train station. Of the six professional Grand Sumo Tournaments held every year, Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall stages three—in January, May, and September. You can go and see Sumo (if you travel in the Sumo season).
