Although Kangaroo Island is mostly about the beaches and natural attractions there are some towns on the island where most of the amenities are located and tours begin.

Having a car is the easiest way of getting around
Kangaroo Island is large and mostly nature, there is very minimal (near non-existant) public transport. You are best to hire or bring your own car so you can travel where you want when you want.
Sealink (the local travel group on the island) has a large presence and operates many tours across the island so it is not essential to have your own car.
