I often hear comments about Lincoln from people visiting Lincoln or people from other cities when they hear where I am from that the people in Lincoln are "so nice." Husker Football also puts this city and state on everyone's radar.

The Pinewood Bowl, a historic amphitheater and the Nature Center are located in the park. Music and theatre come to the amphitheater and the Nature Center has eight miles of hiking trails that wind through various habitats and take visitors past non-releasable raptor exhibits, as well as bison, elk, and white-tailed deer. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Sundays from noon to 5 pm during the summer months. Starting in the fall, facilities close at 4:30pm. Open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Admission is free. Two interpretive buildings house hands-on and small animal exhibits. The Edna Shield’s natural play area for Children provides a place for kids to dig, build and climb. Prairie, bird, children’s and herb gardens with many labeled specimens are both beautiful and instructive. Programming includes a preschool, nature camps, school hikes, scout badge work, birthday parties, special events and a variety of other classes for all ages. The Nature Center is open 362 days a year. Admission is free, suggested donations $3/person, $5/family or $10/group.

One of the “Cathedrals of College Football,” according to The Sporting News, Memorial Stadium is one of the most intimidating locations to play in all of sports. With expanded capacity now reaching beyond 85,000, Nebraska has continued its NCAA-record streak of consecutive sellouts that dates back to 1962 and is at 361 games entering the 2018 season. Nebraska celebrated its 300th consecutive sellout with a stadium record crowd against Louisiana-Lafayette in 2009. While maintaining its traditional charm, Memorial Stadium has also become one of the most high-tech stadiums in the country. In 1994, the stadium was the first on-campus stadium to feature big-screen instant replay boards. Several upgrades have been made in the past two decades, keeping the Memorial Stadium game experience as one of the nation's best. Inscribed on the four corners of the stadium are the following words, written by former UNL professor of philosophy Hartley Burr Alexander: Southeast: "In Commemoration of the men of Nebraska who served and fell in the Nations Wars." Southwest: "Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory." Northwest: "Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport." Northeast: "Their Lives they held their country's trust; They kept its faith; They died its heroes." The Ross is committed to screening a wide diversity of high quality cinema: innovative American independent work including non-narrative, experimental films and video; classic foreign and American cinema illustrative of traditional and historical perspectives; documentaries which examine a wide variety of issues of concern; and contemporary foreign cinema of substance. The program is augmented by the invited participation of important media artists and scholars, and is supplemented through the distribution of notes and a research library which serves as a resource for the academic community and interested citizens throughout the state. The program plays a vital role in the education of the University’s Academic community at large, including Film Studies students. It also reaches out to the Lincoln community and beyond, offering Nebraskans a stimulating alternative to commercial movie and television fare by presenting works not ordinarily offered in this area. Visit https://rossmedia.centeredgeonline.com/movie/movies for tickets.
