Food Scene

This is our FAVORITE spot to eat and drink beer while we're in town. Originally a farm, they opened up the brewery as a way to entice folks in to eat the food they'd grown themselves. Absolutely everything here is homegrown and you can taste it in what they make. Try the Red Clay if it's there.

Operated by a husband and wife who were long time visitors to the area before retiring, this upscale restaurant offers good food and extremely pleasant service. The husband flits around the dining room chatting with guests and making sure everyone feels like family, while his wife is the head chef. Good for a sit down dinner, reservations are recommended.

This is where you should stop and grab food on the way up to the cabin, assuming you're coming in on 81. The farm store carries a wide variety of products from both the orchard and local meat producers, as well as other vegetables (when in season) and staples such as pasta and spices. Also a great place to stop on your way out of town for snacks before you hit the highway.

Sightseeing

The closest, best place to go hiking in the area. If you park at the Wolf Gap trailhead, it's about a half mile straight up to the ridge line from which you can see WV on one side and VA on the other. There's an enormous rock formation called Big Schloss that offers fantastic views of the area.

You've probably seen Rt. 11 chips, but did you know they're made right down the road from our place? They offer factory tours and the opportunity to stock up on a phenomenal variety of chips. Beware - do not take the Mama Zuma's lightly, as they are very very VERY spicy!

Another great hiking option, this one just up the road. It's not as close as Wolf Gap, but it does command an impressive view of the Shenandoah River Valley

Winter Travel

This is the mountains and temperatures are a bit colder, meaning we frequently get more snow and ice and the surrounding area. To add to the challenge, the roads can be very steep and curvy. The roads in the area are frequently ploughed and salted, but they're not immediately passable after a snowstorm - plowing can take up to a day. It is VERY pleasant to be snowed in up here, but make sure you plan (and book) accordingly!
