Sightseeing

The Minack Theatre in Cornwall is one of my favourite attractions and is always on my list of places to visit when I’m showing guests around. Whether you go to see a show or just spend time walking around the theatre and gardens, it’s a must see. It is an open air theatre so the weather does dictate if a show goes ahead or not, but whatever the weather it always makes for a stunning view with the beautiful Porthcurno Bay as it’s backdrop. The Minack Theatre is Cornwall's world famous open-air theatre, carved into the granite cliff and set in glorious gardens overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay.

Beaches

Bigbury is one of my favourite beaches, it is around a 30 minute drive from the house but is worth the trip. It does get very busy in the summer, I find it’s best to either get there early morning or later in the afternoon. The drive to the beach is through some narrow lanes at times. Bigbury on sea, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and joined by causeway to the iconic Burgh Island. Shallow water for paddling and rock pools for exploring. Bigbury on Sea is a popular family beach and great for windsurfing and kite surfing too. There is a beach shop and cafe close by and on site (paid) parking. Lifeguards are on site May-September.

Food scene

The Barbican Pasta bar is one of my all time favourite restaurant’s, located in the heart of the historic Barbican, it is the perfect place to enjoy a lovely meal and carry on the evening on the Barbican. There is a lot of choice on the menu (not just pasta and pizza), my favourite dish (which I have every single time) is the Chicken La Ti Dah. The bacon and cheese potato skins are amazing as well (they are generous with the bacon and cheese!). I have strayed from my favourite dish a couple of times to try something new, and everything else I’ve eaten there has been just as good. The portions are decent and the prices aren’t too bad. I recommend advanced bookings during the weekend and holiday season as it does get very busy.

Toot is a Persian takeaway and Restaurant in Plymouth City Centre. There is a beautiful rooftop terrace (under cover) as well as indoor seating. The traditional Middle Eastern decoration adds to the ambiance and with the amazing food to go with it, you really do feel like you are in the Middle East. I’ve only eaten here once but the food and service was fantastic and everyone I know who has been have all had great reviews as well.

The Lyneham Inn is just a 5 minute drive from the house and they do a fantastic carvery. The venue itself is a little dated and quite dark inside, but the carvery is good, it is one of my go to’s when I cannot be bothered to cook or fancy a roast without all the hassle. They do offer other menu items but I’ve never eaten anything other than the carvery. The beef is probably the best beef I’ve had at a carvery (and I’ve had a lot of carveries!) and the honey and mustard parsnips are delicious.
