The Struisbaai harbour is a hub of activity that serves as the entry point for the many colourful fishing boats. There is a restaurant as well. But the best part is to meet Parrie.
Parrie is an unusual attraction as he is a resident stingray. He was initially lured to the Struisbaai harbour by morsels thrown over the boats by the returning fisherman, Parrie has now been a regular for several years. Parrie has grown so accustomed to the locals that he can be approached by people and be fed! Although it is always advisable to keep an eye on his swaying tail, Parrie is very friendly.
A few more stingrays have joined their famous friend but they are still shy. Parrie on the other hand is happy to greet anyone (especially if they come bring pilchards)
You can easily spot him as he is the largest stingray of the group.

Struisbaai Harbour

Kassiesbaai is a natural heritage site that dates back to the 1800s. The thatched and white-washed cottages are still owned by the descendants of the original families. The residence successfully fought off attempts to remove them during Apartheid.
