Sightseeing
Within a mile of our home there is a trail with indian mounds and information about the Native Americans that resided in the area over 1000 years ago. There is also a small museum has many artifacts from the mounds on display as well as a video describing the site. The mounds are distinct and impressive. One has great views from the top.

About 20 minutes from our home is the Rainbow River. It is almost 6 miles, with the main spring head to KP hole being the clearest and busiest part of the river. Tubing is popular in the summer months, whole groups float down the river on tubes that can be rented from nearby Swampy's restaurant where you can be taken by bus to KP Hole and end up back at the restaurant after floating down the river to return your tube.
The Rainbow river runs into the Withlacoochee river which is also great for kayaking and less crowded. Wildlife is spectacular, lots of turtles, shorebirds, fish, otters, gators, they get bigger as you go further from the spring head.

This beach is formed with a barrier of rocks protecting the shore. This causes calmer waters with small waves. This beach is perfect for those with small kids, picnicking, and just watching the sunset.

Crystal River is a coastal city in west central Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. It is centered around the pristine waters of Kings Bay, and is known for its population of manatees. The small town of approximately 6.8 square miles welcomes hundreds of manatees each winter to its many warm springs including the famous Three Sisters Springs. Together with neighboring Homosassa, Crystal River is the site of the largest gathering of manatees in North America.
When the water temperature drops in the Gulf of Mexico, manatees move to the warmer waters of Crystal River and the springs of Kings Bay. Located along Florida’s "Nature Coast," the waters of Crystal River have the only legal "swim-with" Manatee program in the Country, meaning visitors can passively observe the mammals in their natural habitat. The springs flow at a constant 72 degrees, making the water attractive to all sorts of swimmers in the winter as well as the summer months. Kings Bay, is also home to the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, the only refuge created specifically for the protection of the threatened Florida manatee.
Crystal River Preserve State Park is located nearby, and Crystal River Archeological State Park is located in the city's northwest side and also within a mile of our home. Crystal River's six mile long winding waterway is fed by some 30 springs, connecting Kings Bay with the Gulf of Mexico. The bay and the river combine to provide virtually every aquatic activity conceivable—from swimming and diving, to boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, water skiing, fishing and just drifting along admiring the views.
Crystal River is known for its world class fishing and visitors come from around the world to experience the sport on the pristine waterways. The short run to the Gulf of Mexico and the abundance of fish relatively near the shore make for memorable days on the water.
Hugging all of the pristine waterways is Crystal River’s historic Downtown on North Citrus Avenue. Incredible restaurants, bars and cafes abound as well as shopping in the heart of the city. Downtown plays host to many amazing events and festival throughout the year including the Florida Manatee Festival in January. Crystal River is alive with nature, southern charm, warm people and adventure.
