Arts & Culture

Valletta is the capital city of Malta, colloquially known as Il-Belt "The City" in Maltese. Valletta contains buildings from the 16th century onwards, built during the rule of the Order of St. John also known as Knights Hospitaller. The city is essentially Baroque in character, with elements of Mannerist, Neo-Classical and Modern architecture in selected areas, though the Second World War left major scars on the city, particularly the destruction of the Royal Opera House. City of Valletta was officially recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980 and it the European Capital of culture for 2018.

Shopping

It is a major residential and commercial area and a centre for shopping, dining, and café life. Lining the coastline is a promenade known as the Sliema Front, that has become the ideal spot for joggers and walkers as well as a prolific meeting place for locals during the summer season. Romantic moon strolls, barbeques and open air restaurants, cafes have made Sliema the hub of social nightlife. Sliema is also known for its numerous rocky beaches, water sports and hotels. Sliema, which means 'peace, comfort', was once a quiet fishing village on the peninsula across Marsamxett Harbour from Valletta and boasts beautiful views of the capital city.

Located in the centre of San Gwann, well away from the tourist areas. But well worth a visit, very modern design and décor and very well air conditioned. The menu was pretty standard fare, basically Pasta, pizza and Grill. Food was well cooked and good sized portions. Coral cafe leaves one feeling relaxed, offers a variety of food, teas, coffees, cakes and drinks to choose from. Great area for meetings, or just cozy for drinks. TVs & free wifi also make the time flies, even if one is alone. Lovely large window to watch the world go by.
