The City beach is one of the favorite night and day promenades in Uzice. On the city beach from the old railway bridge, traditional dives are organized in the first half of August every year. In addition, at the level of the mentioned bridge, an asphalt road 9 kilometers long continues, which leads to an open-air spa (Staparska banja). Until almost 70 years ago, a train called Ćira passed along that road and was only a part of the then narrow gauge railway on the Belgrade-Sarajevo route. On the city beach, there is one of the few, and at the same time the second hydroelectric power plant in Europe, which works on Tesla's principles, and which started operating in 1900. Our beach will remain etched in everyone's memory and it is certainly one of the places that I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone.

The canyon of the river Cetinje is the only natural treasure of the citizens of Uzice, but also of Serbia. The canyon can be reached from two directions, one is from the City Beach over the old railway bridge, and the other is through the peripheral settlement of Turica, where you enter the Canyon directly. Otherwise, from Terazije Apartment is closer and faster to get through the settlement of Turica. The length of the route is about 9 kilometers, so many people cross it by bicycle, but there are also those with more fitness who use this destination for fitness preparations. The canyon is characterized by its plant and animal species, but also by human hands. It is immediately noticeable that there are a lot of tunnels on the route that date from the time when a narrow gauge railway passed through this route. I must emphasize that the tunnels are fully lit and secured. Also, near the fourth tunnel, there is one of the old bathing areas called "Velika dam" with a large waterfall. There are also several places to take a break in the Canyon in order to continue to the last kilometers of the route where an open-air spa (Staparska Banja) and Neolithic sojenica settlement in Stapari (Neo LIFE) awaits you.

Although I attended this school, I still think that the old town of Užice is a bigger attraction than it. This medieval fortress is located only about 300 meters away from the elementary school of the same name, whose name it bears. The distance from the city center is about one kilometer, but it is not difficult to reach this fortress on the other side of the hill, via the settlement of Terazije. The stone medieval fortress, built on a cliff above river Djetinja, has been watching Uzice for centuries. The first reliable historical records about the Old Town, as the people of Uzice now call the fortress, date from the 14th century. At that time, the noble family Vojinovic was mentioned as the owner of that fortified town, from when the road to Bosnia could be seen and defended, and after that family, the powerful Serbian prefect Nikola Altomanović. This fortress, which, for the sake of defense, was difficult to access due to the steep rock and the river on three sides, has been destroyed and re-fortified several times in its history. As a military facility, it was disabled and destroyed because, in 1863, the last Turks were expelled from the city. Today, the Old Town looks incomparably more beautiful, but it is planned to carry out a complete reconstruction of this fortress and to evoke its 18th century appearance. This fortress is one of the most beautiful places in the city of Uzice and it offers an unforgettable view of the city and the city beach.

Sightseeing

Among the monuments in the vicinity of Uzice, the memorial complex on Kadinjaca (14 km west of Uzice) stands out. The monument is dedicated to the fighters of the Uzice Workers Battalion, Posavina and Orasani, who sacrificed themselves on November 29, 1941, protecting the retreat of the majority of partisan forces from Uzice to Sandzak. In memory of the resistance of the defenders of Uzice, in 1952, the Monument was discovered - a pyramid under which there is an ossuary in which the remains of most of the fighters who died on Kadinjaca are located. Within the monument complex, which covers an area of 15 ha, there is a Memorial House intended for the reception of visitors in order to provide information about the monument and the battle of Kadinjaca. In the building of the Memorial House, there is a permanent exhibition "Workers Battalion and the Struggle on Kadinjaca" in an area of about 150 m, with over 300 exhibits. In one of the exhibition halls, also there is an exhibition "Uzice region in NATO aggression on FR Yugoslavia".

About 200 meters from the city assembly of Uzice, at the end of the main street is the National Museum. Two buildings of the Museum contains the permanent exhibitions: “Uzice, Origin and Development”, “Uzice Republic 1941”, “Legacy of Mihailo Milovanovic,a painter” and “History of the Factory for production af arms in Uzice from 1928 to date”. In underground tunnels there is the permanent exhibition “Partisan Factory of arms and ammunition 1941”. The permanent exhibition “The town house from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century” is located at Jokanovica house, as the constituent part of museum complex. Since April 30, 2009, within the work organization of the National Museum Uzice, there has been a presentation of hydroelectric power plant “Under the Town”. Jokanovica house is a kind of ethnographic cultural monument in Uzice. It was built in the second half of the nineteenth century as a storey house with residential and commercial purpose. It was long owned by the Serbian merchant family Jokanovic, but later it changed several owners. In 1988, Jokanovica house was declared as cultural heritage – a cultural monument. The building is one of the few monuments of the Balkan-oriented architecture. It is located only about 200 meters from the museum, and in the direction of the city hall near the Church of St. George and the gymnasium. As a child, I fell in love with the National Museum in Uzice, and I think that you and your children will be delighted with the beauty and history that this area has to offer.
