GO HERE! The best traditional German food place in all of Hamburg. And they have their own beer ;-) Far better and less expensive than the "hofbrau haus". It is right behind the Hamburg town hall.

Gediegene Atmosphäre, sehr leckeres Bier frisch vom Faß und vernünftiges, typisches Brauhaus-Essen. Gelegen direkt an einem der zahlreichen Fleete der Nachbarschaft.
