Best Gourmet Dining (time to blow it out!): Trois Mec (17 min walk) -- Ludo Lefebvre’s LA flagship. A tough reservation, and we like the bistro next door better, but it won’t disappoint.

Winner, several, best new restaurant in the country: 2013. French. Outrageously good. Book in advance. Be really nice. Take any available booking.

Ludo Lefebvre (he of top chef fame) acclaimed and highly rated restaurant with exquisite but fairly expensive food that is always inventive.

Visitors might find it odd that an upscale French restaurant from star chef Ludo Lefebvre would be located in a strip mall, but that’s typical of Southern California.
