Spectacular views, hiking trails and rock formations! Be sure to bring your camera, bug spray and a picnic basket. The perfect place to hike, have a picnic and take in nature.
Two forks of the Black River flow through this 68,000-acre forest comprised of pine and oak woods under high sandstone abutments. This central Wisconsin property offers many recreational opportunities, including camping, canoeing, hunting, hiking, skiing and ATV riding. Visitors may even see elk roaming the forest.
Year-round fun for the entire family! There are miles of trails suitable for hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling. Trails are identified as easy, medium, and hard and will take you into some very scenic back country in Jackson County. Hunting is also a popular sport - in season, of course!
68,000 acres of pine and oak forest with two forks of the Black River and high sandstone abutments. Permit required for backpacking. Hike, bike and ski. How about island hopping on a mountain bike? The 300-foot-high glacial mounds strung out like a seven-mile-long necklace in the Black River State Forest seem like islands in a vast ocean of trees. From scenic overlooks on their peaks, you can look to the northeast where 10,000 years ago the bottled-up glacial meltwater of Lake Wisconsin once covered 1,800 square miles. Pets are welcome in Wisconsin State Parks but must be on a leash and under control at all times. Certain areas may be off limits to pets.
