"Endless is the good that I have given you to enjoy." – Kamehameha I How many places in America can you walk in the footsteps of a king? Where else has a stranded sailor risen up to become a great chief over an entire island? Where else can you experience the culminating event of a people, foretold from centuries past? Where else can you stand on a beach and watch as sharks pass over a submerged temple? Experience all this and much more – only at Pu'ukoholā Heiau!

The Pu'ukohola Heiau is one of the last Hawaiian temples to be built. It was built under KIng Kamehameha and led to hime ruling all of the Hawaiian Islands. There is a self guided audio tour that ends in at Spencer Beach. The views are stunning and you can look for black-tip reef sharks swimming in the bay.

Interesting historical site to learn about Hawaiian culture and history prior to Western contact. It's free!

Built by Kamehameha I to his war god, Ku, in order to accumulate the mana necessary to undertake conquering the rest of the Hawaiian Islands. Homestead of John Young, the architect and western technical advisor to the King to accomplish the Kingdom, is nearby.

This is a nice little museum to a sacred Hawaiian site, but I'm putting this here, because it's the starting point to the KING'S TRAIL, or Ala Kahakai trail. Ask at the center for a map and info.
